Dare to Wear Pink Charity Day

Thursday 16 October 2025

We are inviting all students to come to school wearing PINK on Thursday 16 October to raise money for the Oman Cancer Association. Students are asked for a donation to take part (we suggest 500 bz - but this is at your discretion). This will be collected by the class teacher during registration on the day.

As always, we ask that no hair dye/hair spray or makeup is worn if your child has PE or Swimming, that shoes are appropriate for school and clothing is respectful.

Half Term

Sunday 19 October - Thursday 23 October 2025

BSM's half term holiday will be from Sunday 19 October - Thursday 23 October 2025. BSM will be closed for all students for this week. Please see our Term Dates page on the website for all holiday dates for this academic year.

Please note: School will finish at the usual time on Thursday 16 October.

Half Term Swimming - Crash Course

We’re excited to announce that BSM Marlins Swim School will be running a Half Term Crash Course from Sunday, 19 October to Thursday, 23 October

These short, intensive courses are a fantastic opportunity for swimmers to enjoy lessons over the week, build confidence, and sharpen their skills. Families do not need to commit to all days, and our small class sizes ensure every swimmer gets focused attention.

Sunday, Tuesday & Wednesday – 8:30 AM–9:30 AM

Flat rate: 10 OMR for the three sessions

3:00–3:30 PM – Stage 1 & 2 (30 mins)
3:30–4:00 PM – Stage 3 & 4 (30 mins)

If you are keen to dig deeper into your child’s progress at school then this information session is for you. Within the session you will learn how to access the platform and how you can learn more about the content and delivery of the curriculum for your son or daughter.

These sessions are for Primary School parents and will take place every Tuesday at 07:45am. We hope you will be able to join us.

Please meet in reception at 07:35 and BSM staff will escort you to the venue.
Please make sure you are wearing your red parent lanyard. If you do not have your parent lanyard and pass with you, you will need to sign in at reception.

Parking:

Please park at the TOP of school. Access will not be available from the bottom of school.

Before 7:30am: Please park at the top of school, outside of the car park, along Al Nadhayer Street, Way 1949 and Way 1947.
After 7:30am: Parking will also be available in the top carpark after 7:30am

Collaborative Music Day at BSM – Singers & Instrumentalists Wanted!

Friday 31 October, 8:00am to 2:00pm

Singers (Y3+)
Instrumentalists (Y6+): Woodwind, Brass & String Players

Join us for a fun-filled, free-of-charge Music Day on Friday 31 October. As part of our initiative to bring students from schools across Muscat together, the day is a chance to make music, meet new friends, and enjoy ensemble workshops.

The day runs from 8:00am to 2:00pm, finishing with a short performance at 1:30 pm in the Oryx Theatre for parents to attend. Once registered, full details will be sent to parents. Register your child today: Registration Form

Ministry of Health Vaccinations for Y2 and Y7

Sunday 2 November 2025

The Ministry of Health (MOH) will visit school to administer the following vaccinations:

Year 2: Diphtheria + Paediatric tetanus and Paediatric polio
Year 7: DTP Adult and OPV and HPV Vaccine

If your child has followed the Oman vaccination schedule, they will be eligible to receive these vaccines. We understand that some children may have already received them or you may prefer to vaccinate privately. Please consult your doctor if you are unsure whether your child requires these vaccinations.

Important: The Ministry of Health requires your child’s original vaccination book on the day. Please send this to school no later than 28 October.

INSET Day

Thursday 6 November

BSM will not be open to students on Thursday 6 November. This is a staff INSET day, as marked on our academic calendar. Our staff will be attending the International Schools Conference Oman (ISCO) with other international schools in Oman.

Safeguarding Information: Children’s “Spy” Books

We want to make you aware of a reports of a recent issue affecting some popular children’s books by Andrew Cope, including the Spy Dogs, Spy Cats, and Spy Pups series.

Some editions of these books include a printed web address at the back. This link used to go to the author’s website, but the domain is no longer under his control. It has since been taken over by another party and now leads to inappropriate adult content.

The publisher, Puffin, has paused sales and distribution of the books. They have stressed that the website has no connection to the author or publisher.

What this means for you:

If your child has any Spy Dog, Spy Cat or Spy Pups books at home, please check the back for website links and make sure they do not try to visit the sites.
It is safe for children to continue reading the stories themselves — the concern is only with the outdated link.
We recommend talking with your child about the importance of not following web addresses in books without checking with an adult first.

Are you leaving us?

Please complete our leavers form if your children will be leaving BSM (we will be sorry to see you go!). You must inform us a month before the end of term to ensure your contributory deposit is refunded.

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Y4+

Our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme begins in Year 4 and continues through into the Senior School. Please read this document for full Primary School information.

Laptop Borrowing

The availability of school-owned laptops for emergency use has been a valuable support system for those students who forget or accidentally break their own devices during the day. From 1 January 2024, each student will be eligible for up to five days of free laptop borrowing per academic year. This will help with emergency situations and short-term device issues. Please read more about this policy in this document.

Weekly Emails

Every Wednesday afternoon we send out a newsletter to keep you up to date with what’s been happening in school and to let you know about the exciting events coming up. We really encourage you to read these each week so you don’t miss out.

If you do not receive these emails, please first check your spam or junk folder. If the problem continues, kindly log in to the Parent Portal to ensure we have the correct email address on record. Alternatively, get in touch with us and we will be happy to assist.

Email delivery issues

If you are missing an email from school, please check we have your details correct on our Parent Portal.

We are aware of a few problems with our emails not being received by parents, particularly for Yahoo and Hotmail addresses. To help our emails make it to your inbox we would recommend the following:

Gmail users - emails sometimes go into the 'promotions' tab and occasionally 'spam'. Please check both these folders. To correct, you can just drag and drop one such message to the 'Primary' mailbox and click Yes on the confirmation box for all future messages. Saving our email addresses will also help (see below).
Yahoo & Hotmail users - emails sent to a group (such as a class or year group) are often filtered out as spam by Yahoo and Hotmail. You can avoid this by adding the email addresses below to your contacts. Please also consider providing us with an alternative email address to contact you.
