This week we have revisited the s and a sounds and introduced the t sound. The children enjoyed playing sorting games, identifying objects that begin with these sounds and listening carefully to the initial sound in words. We also practised forming the letter t in a variety of fun, multisensory ways, including using glitter, whiteboards, sand, shaving foam and even writing on each other’s backs. These activities helped strengthen letter recognition while keeping learning active and engaging.
In Mathematics, we have continued working on our Number Booklets, with a focus on number formation and recognition. The children have been learning simple number rhymes to help them remember how to form numbers correctly. They have practised writing numbers in different ways, including painting, sensory mark making and movement-based activities. These playful approaches have helped build confidence and enjoyment in early number skills, and the children are very proud of the progress they are making with their booklets.
In our library session, we enjoyed reading Perfectly Norman by Tom Percival. The story prompted some thoughtful discussion about being yourself and celebrating what makes each of us unique. We talked about how Norman felt when he tried to hide a part of himself, how that made him feel inside, and how his feelings changed when he finally felt free to be who he truly is. The children shared ideas about what makes them special, how it’s okay to be different, and why it’s important to feel happy and confident being ourselves. This is linked closely to understanding emotions, kindness, and respecting differences in others.
The children have been learning about colours through a range of engaging craft activities, songs, and rhymes. They enjoyed listening to and joining in with familiar Arabic songs, helping them to hear and repeat colour vocabulary in a fun and memorable way. Through creative activities, the children practised identifying and naming colours while developing their listening skills and confidence in using new words. The combination of music, movement, and hands-on learning supported their understanding and made the sessions lively and enjoyable.
Focus children weeks have started again for Term 2. We will contact you via email when it is your child’s week - and hand out a new questionnaire for you to fill in at home
Important notice to all EYFS parents - Please park by the EYFS blue gate and come through the EYFS blue gate for our parent focus meetings. The FS team will be there to open and close the gate and you can wait in the cosy kitchen in the meantime.
Please note that the Blue EYFS Gate opens at 7:10 am and closes promptly at 7:30 am. Punctuality is very important, as FS2 children begin structured phonics and maths sessions during this time.
We are always available at the gate for quick questions or to hear any information you would like to share about your child. Please speak to us if you have anything important to let us know.
Library: Our library sessions will take place on Tuesdays. Please ensure that books are returned on Tuesday mornings so your child can borrow a new one to enjoy at home.
Please note that we promote healthy eating, it is important that snack boxes contain healthy food and perhaps a small ‘treat.’
Correct uniform is to be worn by the children, please check the school website if you are unsure. FS1 children do not need a PE uniform.
We do require a change of clothes in a labeled bag in case of any accidents. This will remain in school instead of being sent home each day.
Please do not hesitate to contact the Primary Office if you have any questions or queries.
Thank you for your continued support at home - it makes a huge difference to the children’s confidence and progress in school. Please do not hesitate to contact the Primary Office if you have any questions or queries.
