In English this week, we have started working on our historical write linked to our humanities topic. We practised our comprehension skills and identified features of chronological reports. Then, we researched and took notes in preparation for next week.
In Humanities, we have been learning about prehistory in Britain and created a timeline of objects from the British Museum.
In Science, we looked at the relative size of planets in our solar system. We created a fact file about the 8 planets including their size, distance from the sun, length of orbit around the sun and type of planet.
In Maths, we have continued our learning on addition and subtraction. We have been applying our knowledge of formal written methods to word problems, comparing calculations and finding missing numbers.
In Art, we continued our sketch page on prehistoric art.
Have a wonderful half term break. We look forward to seeing you back in school.
The sign up form for our residential trip is now live! Please complete this form by Thursday 16 October. If you have any queries or questions, please email the primary office.
Reading - Please read for 20 minutes per day and record this in your P.O. Please record the book title and page numbers and ask an adult to sign when they have either heard you read or have discussed your reading with you.
Maths - Practice your mental arithmetic skills on Maths Passport.
Continue to fill in your moon journal each evening.
Just a reminder:
On Sundays and Tuesdays the children in Year 5 have PE lessons and can wear their PE to school. They must bring their uniform to change into after their PE lesson.
On Wednesday, they have swimming.
Headphones:
This year we will take part in activities that require the students to use headphones with their devices. Whilst we do have a stock the children can borrow, if your child already has headphones, they can bring them into school with their device. You can also purchase inexpensive headphones at many outlets in Muscat. Please note that we do not encourage the children to bring valuable headphones from home. We recommend wired overhead headphones.
The U11 BSME Games will be held in Muscat in February 2026. For further information about the BSME Games please read this letter from Mr O’Sullivan.

Please can we request that all children come to school on the day of their swimming lessons with the following equipment:
Swim Uniform in accordance with guidelines.
Swim hats for those with long hair. ALL hats must be secure on the head with no risk of slipping down over the face.
Goggles
Towel
Pool shoes (crocs or equivalent)
A waterproof bag to carry everything in.
Please see our Swimwear Guidelines on the website.
Please do not wear 'swim uniform' into school for hygiene reasons. Please do not wear an alternative gym or running kit for swimming lessons. It's important to use only 'Swim Uniform' and the recommendations listed above in the pool, as other fabrics become incredibly heavy when wet.
We have created WhatsApp groups for parents to know about urgent messages or reminders. Email will continue to be the main form of communication. Please see our BSM WhatsApp Groups Document for all the links. Please read the code of conduct carefully before joining any BSM WhatsApp groups.
