Welcome to week 7 of Year 3!
In PSHE this week, we thought about friendships and what a good friend is. We also thought about the qualities of a good friend.
In Maths this week, we are learning to add numbers crossing the 10 or 100. This means that you may have to partition a number and use your knowledge of number bonds to 10 to help you.
In Art we created our portraits of ourselves as pharaohs using papyrus style paper, oil plates and some additional touches. The effects look really great!
In English, we are really focusing on our sentences and making sure that they are descriptive and properly punctuated. We started the week with a slow write where we all write a sentence together. We have planned an alternative version of the Bear and the Piano which we will then write in our own words. This helps us to really develop our skills.
Spellings will now be given every Thursday in the POs enabling students to practise the words before the lesson on Sunday. The rule/pattern will be taught in the Sunday lesson as usual. The students will be tested on their spellings on the following Thursday.
In Humanities, we are learning about Egyptian life and the different jobs that Egyptians had in ancient times. Through this we will investigate the hierarchies that were in place during these times in history.
In Science this week, we are developing our understanding of food groups through diets and different diets there are around the world. We have shared a game in our google classroom that helps the children understand how to create and eat a healthy, well balanced diet
Homework will be set on Sunday and will be due on the following Sunday. It will be shared through Google Classroom.. Please use this to check homework schedules. You can leave a note for the teacher with feedback too. In the Google Classroom, you will also find additional optional resources that can support your child’s learning.
Please note that if your child is finding the homework challenging, they should try to do what they can. The teacher will not be upset. The work that we set is similar to the work completed in class and should be accessible. If the work is easy and quick to complete, we do have additional activities that students can complete; these will not always be marked but they are available for your use.
Reading is expected to be completed daily and all students have the opportunity to change their books regularly. Please note that we will continue to assess the children over the coming weeks which means that your child’s reading band may change. Your feedback in their PO is helpful; especially if they are finding a book challenging or too easy.
Spellings are given every Sunday and practised in the Sunday lesson. The class will be tested on their spellings on the Thursday of that week.
Homework will be set through Google Classroom. Please join your child’s Google Classroom, either by using this code or by clicking on the invitation email they will receive. Please let us know if you have any problems with gaining access. Your child will receive their logins and passwords in their computing lessons and these will be added to their personal organisers. Homework will be set on a Sunday and will be due the following Sunday.

Welcome to week 6 of Year 3!
In PSHE this week, we thought about the power of self belief. We discussed our goals and how we can achieve them. Based on our previous lesson on our Fantastic Elastic Brain, we considered how more practise builds neurons and helps us to learn. We also learnt that mistakes help us to learn and that we shouldn’t be afraid of making them.
In Maths this week, we are learning to add numbers using number bonds and using facts that we know and applying them to more challenging calculations.
In English, we are working towards retelling the story in our own words; the students will need to add all of these features of this success criteria to write a successful recount.
In Art we are adding ideas to our sketch books to support our project of creating Egyptian style portraits. We will use papyrus style paper to add to a picture of our profile and add an Ancient Egyptian inspired headdress.
In Humanities, we are learning about the Egyptian pharaohs and their achievements while in power. We will discuss what a legacy is and think about what legacies the Ancient Egyptians left.
In Science this week, we are looking at foods that fuel our body and how they help us to function well as we learn to name and explain the function of food groups.
Homework will be set on Sunday and will be due on the following Sunday. It will be shared through Google Classroom, please use this to check homework schedules. Welcome to week 5 of Year 3!
In assembly last week, Year 3 sang to the KS2 children. They were very courageous and brave. If you haven't seen the video, it is posted on our Google Classroom.
This week in English, we have looked at contractions. We used apostrophes to show the omitted words. We also looked at postcard writing based on the children visiting NYC and listening to the bear in our book playing a concert. When we are writing, we are making sure that we are using capital letters and full stops as well as interesting and descriptive vocabulary.
In Science this week, we are looking at our joints and how they help us to move. We will identify where they are on our body.
In Maths, we are ordering and comparing numbers; thinking about how we know which number is larger and what we do if numbers have the same number of hundreds?
In Humanities we are learning about the vast span of time covered by the Ancient Egyptian empires. We will place these on a timeline.
In PSHE, we are sharing our student leader presentation and voting for those who we feel should represent our class.
Homework will be set on Sunday and will be due on the following Sunday. We are starting slow with some light activities. (For this coming week it will be Thursday)

Welcome to week 4 of Year 3!
Another wonderful week in Year 3
In English we were treated to a wonderful piano performance from a Year 6 student. It helped us to immerse ourselves in our story of the Bear and the Piano. We have been using the text to ask questions and find answers. We thought about what we would want to ask the bear and also thought about the answers that he might give; making sure that we refer to the text when answering.
In maths we are continuing our work on place value looking at how numbers can be flexibly partitioned. We are also using a HTO grid to support our understanding of the value of each digit and how this will help us when completing calculations.
In Science this week we are looking at animal skeletons. Can we work out which animal it is based on their skeleton?
In Humanities we have learnt about the pyramids and why they were built. We are also reinforcing our knowledge of human and physical features of the landscape
In PSHE we are reading Your Fantastic Elastic Brain learning all about how amazing our brains are and how we can stretch
The Language for Learning team would like to welcome you back to the new school year.
We are looking forward to supporting your children’s language learning this term. We have several groups taking place this term to support children with language acquisition which included: Speaking and Listening, Reading, Writing and Vocabulary. Should your child be invited to a small group intervention you will be notified via the Primary Office.
Alongside small, regular groups, in some year groups the team will be supporting children with their curriculum for a unit of work or specific activity. This work will usually be completed in class, however sometimes work may lend itself to being completed out of the classroom, in order to support further with a specific language focus.
We also have a website with Tips and Tricks for you and your children to use at home. Click here for the Language for Learning website.
Should you have any questions about the support your child is being offered please do contact the Language for Learning team.

Welcome to week 2 of Year 3!
This week we are starting to visit areas of our curriculum. We started with a ‘hook’ day to start our journey of learning all about the Ancient Egyptians. This involved different activities in each of the classrooms where the children could share their current knowledge and also think about what they wanted to learn in the coming weeks. We will conclude this with a celebration day where we dress up and invite parents in to see all our work.
In maths, we have started our unit on place value. This will include understanding the quantity of amounts, looking at how these are represented and how we use this in maths to answer questions. We have focused on the value of each number and how we can partition it to a part whole model.
In English this week, we have been practising our sentence writing. We have been stretching our sentences to make them more interesting. The idea is that you start with a simple sentence and add more detail. You can try this at home and see what you can come up with; don’t forget your capital letters and full stops!
Homework will be set on Sunday and will be due on the following Sunday. We are starting slow with some light activities. (For this coming week it will be Thursday)

Welcome back to all returning families, and a warm welcome to all of the new families joining us at BSM! We have had a lovely week getting to know the children, and we have been impressed by how quickly they have settled into new spaces and new routines and their enthusiasm for learning!
This week our focus has been on settling into a new year, learning new routines and learning about each other.
We have read the book ‘Ish’ (which can be found here - you will only be able to view this through your BSM email account- and on our google classroom). and have thought about our targets and aspirations for the year ahead.
This week has focussed mainly on our learning attitudes and thinking skills; these form the foundations of BSM’s ethos.
There will be no homework set for the first two weeks of school to allow the children to settle into new routines.
Homework will be set through Google Classroom. Please join your child’s Google Classroom, either by using this code or by clicking on the invitation email they will receive. Please let us know if you have any problems with gaining access. Your child will receive their logins and passwords in their computing lessons and these will be added to their personal organisers.
