Welcome to week 8 of Year 3!
In PSHE this week, we have thought about how to solve conflict. We discussed and gathered different strategies and shared them in our class PSHE book.
In Maths this week, we are learning to add and subtract three digit numbers first without crossing the 10 or 100 boundaries and then moving to crossing them as the questions become more challenging. We will develop this to more complex problems depending on each student’s ability.
In Art we created some work using Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics. Some of the words were a little tricky!
In English, we are writing our own story inspired by The Bear and the Piano. We are using our plans from last week to help us write, making sure that we are paying close attention to our descriptive word choices and that our punctuation is accurate.
In Humanities, we are learning about what daily life was like for the Ancient Egyptians. We are being curious learners as we ask and answer questions.
In Science this week, we are assessing our learning so far. What have we learnt? What do we remember? What do we want to know more about? How can we learn more…?
Homework will be set on Sunday and will be due on the following Sunday. It will be shared through Google Classroom. Please use this to check homework schedules. You can leave a note for the teacher with feedback too. In the Google Classroom, you will also find additional optional resources that can support your child’s learning.
Please note that if your child is finding the homework challenging, they should try to do what they can. The teacher will not be upset. The work that we set is similar to the work completed in class and should be accessible. If the work is easy and quick to complete, we do have additional activities that students can complete; these will not always be marked but they are available for your use.
Reading is expected to be completed daily and all students have the opportunity to change their books regularly. Please note that we will continue to assess the children over the coming weeks which means that your child’s reading band may change. Your feedback in their PO is helpful; especially if they are finding a book challenging or too easy.
Spellings will now be given every Thursday in the POs enabling students to practise the words before the lesson on Sunday. The rule/pattern will be taught in the Sunday lesson as usual. The students will be tested on their spellings on the following Thursday.
Homework will be set through Google Classroom. Please join your child’s Google Classroom, either by using this code or by clicking on the invitation email they will receive. Please let us know if you have any problems with gaining access. Your child will receive their logins and passwords in their computing lessons and these will be added to their personal organisers. Homework will be set on a Sunday and will be due the following Sunday.

What to wear:
PE Days: Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on PE days and swimming days, and regular school uniform on non PE days - their timetable has been stuck in their Personal Organiser and can also be found on the Google classroom.
Swimming: On Tuesday we have swimming, please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit, and brings their swim kit in a separate waterproof bag. Please make sure all swimming items are clearly labelled with your child's name.
Water Bottles and hats: Please label everything. Some children have the same water bottles and hats as others and they often get lost.
Medical and dietary needs: Please check that the school has up to date information on any medical or dietary requirements. We will be cooking in some of our lessons and we want to make sure that we accommodate everyone's needs.
Email: We welcome communication from parents. If you would like to contact your child’s class teacher about any matter, then you can do so by writing a note in the PO, or for more complex queries please send an email to the school office, and this will be passed onto the correct member of staff. Please note, all emails should be sent via the primary office and not directly to teachers; this ensures that your query can be dealt with as quickly as possible.

If your child is unwell, leaving early or coming late please complete the Absence Form and the class teacher will be informed.
Please can we request that all children come to school on the day of their swimming lessons with the following equipment:
Swim Uniform in accordance with guidelines.
Swim hats for those with long hair. ALL hats must be secure on the head with no risk of slipping down over the face.
Goggles
Towel
Pool shoes (crocs or equivalent)
A waterproof bag to carry everything in.
Please see our Swimwear Guidelines on the website.
Please do not wear 'swim uniform' into school for hygiene reasons. Please do not wear an alternative gym or running kit for swimming lessons. It's important to use only 'Swim Uniform' and the recommendations listed above in the pool, as other fabrics become incredibly heavy when wet.
We have created WhatsApp groups for parents to know about urgent messages or reminders. Email will continue to be the main form of communication. Please see our BSM WhatsApp Groups Document for all the links. Please read the code of conduct carefully before joining any BSM WhatsApp groups.
Welcome to week 7 of Year 3!
In PSHE this week, we thought about friendships and what a good friend is. We also thought about the qualities of a good friend.
In Maths this week, we are learning to add numbers crossing the 10 or 100. This means that you may have to partition a number and use your knowledge of number bonds to 10 to help you.
In Art we created our portraits of ourselves as pharaohs using papyrus style paper, oil plates and some additional touches. The effects look really great!
